Louver Sizes:

2 1/2" and 3 1/2" Louver's (Flat)

Louver (or blade width) is the starting point when designing a custom shutter treatment. There are two louver standard widths from which to choose: 2 ½” and 3 ½”. Cordova Shutters feature a patented tensioning pin to ensure the louvers stay in position and never require adjustment.

Tilt Rod:
The tilt rod (or adjusting rod) is connected to each individual louver and is used for adjusting the angle of all the louvers simultaneously.

Stiles:
Each shutter panel has two “stiles”. These are the two vertical side pieces of the shutter panel. The edge of the stiles are “rabbeted” (cut out in a stair step fashion) so that each panel may overlap or interlock with an adjacent shutter panel. Cordova Shutters custom shutter panels are of 1 1/6” stock.

Rails:
All shutter panels have top and bottom rails. They are joined to the stiles to complete the four-sided panel. Shelby Shutter rails will be connected to the stile using a “dowel” type system.

Divider Rails:
Divider rails are used for support across the center of the shutter panel. They are always made of the same stock as the top and bottom rail. Dalphis, Inc. recommends divider rails on tall panels with a height of 72” or greater. The divider rail will separate the shutter into two individually operable louver sets. Panels with 2 ½” louvers will use a 4” divider rail. Panels with 3 ½” louvers will use a 3” divider rail.

Frame:
Each shutter or shutter group will be hinged to a frame during installation. The frame is mounted to the wall, door jamb or window casing to hold the shutter panels. The frame bears the weight of the entire shutter system.

Wood Species:
Cordova Shutters are made of a combination of basswood and poplar, kiln dried stable northern hardwoods.

Finish:
A quality finish is essential to the appearance of a custom shutter. A beautifully finished wood shutter can truly be considered a fine piece of furniture. All Cordova Shutters feature a smooth finish and are available painted or unfinished. Most standard colors are the same as those featured in the Traditions 2” wood blind line. Custom colors are available in painted finishes, for a surcharge. To assure the closest match possible, Dalphis, Inc. requires the custom color sample to be applied on wood. Note: A scrap piece of trim. When matched, we will send strike offs and a color approval form for your approval.

For your protection, production will not begin on custom color orders until we have your signed approval form in our office.

Our shutters are finished with a water based lacquer:
This finish meets the most stringent Air Quality Control Standards and offers an attractive smooth finish without causing harm to the environment. Our employees have had extensive training in order to get the best possible finish. Our shutters are dried in a humidity controlled environment to ensure you receive a quality finish.

Hardware:
The hardware used on Cordova Shutters consists of hinges and magnetic fasteners. The standard hardware for Cordova Shutters is available in bright brass, antique brass or nickel satin. Color matched hardware is available for an extra charge.

Engineering:
Initial engineering concerns are ones of shutter weight, window span, and maximum width specifications. The term “span” is used to describe the distance covered by one or more shutter panels collectively hanging off one common hanging strip. As a general rule, when using 1-1/16” stock, no more than four feet of shutter panel can hang off of any one hanging strip without adding additional support. Additional support is provided using T-Posts. A T-Post is a vertical support that divides one large opening into two or more smaller openings.

Specifications Engineered By The Factory:

  1. Allowances for proper fit – when “inside mount” is specified, factory deducts 3/8” from the overall width and ¼” from the overall height to aid in installation adjustments.
  2. Stile, rail and frame size.
  3. Number of hinges required.

SQUARE FOOT PRICE DETERMINATION:
To calculate square footage: Take the width times the length then divide your answer by 144.

IMPORTANT:
Shelby and Cordova Shutters are priced to the 1/100 th of an inch. There is no rounding up to calculate square feet, as illustrated in the following example:

Example: For a Shutter 31 1/4” wide by 72 1/2” tall:

●Width 31 /14” x Length 72 1/2” = 2265.63 square inches.

●2265.63 square inches divided by 144 = 15.73 square feet.

●15.73 square feet x sq. ft. price = net cost
